William G. Davis, Jr., 76, life-long resident of Dover, passed away peacefully in his home July 10, 2004 surrounded by his family.
He was born February 6, 1928 to Wm. G. “Cheese” & Nora Agnes Davis at the family residence in Dover.
Bill graduated from Dover High School in 1946. Continuing his education, he attended Wittenberg University where he graduated in 1950 with a degree in Business Administration. He was also a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
After college, Bill returned to Dover and began working at Wendling Brothers Construction where he met his future bride, the former Joan E. Alpeter, who survives. In 1955 he began working at Union Camp Corporation in Dover, retiring in 1991 as Plant Accountant.
Bill spent most of his retirement years traveling and helping with his daughter�(TM)s flower shop, where he worked as a delivery driver.
He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church at Dover, was a life member and past president of the Dover Jaycees, member of the Dover Elks, and was a longtime member of the Tornado Club. Bill had formerly been a member of the Dover Kiwanis and in 1961, was campaign chairman for the Tuscarawas County Heart Fund.
An avid sports fan, Bill enjoyed golf, baseball �" having served as the first secretary/treasurer for Dover Little League baseball, and especially enjoyed following Dover High School football teams for decades. He hadn�(TM)t missed a Dover �" New Philadelphia football game in 52 years.
He was a life-long big band and swing music aficionado, attending numerous jazz orchestra performances.
His creativity, spontaneous wit and generosity will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to Joan, his wife of 48 years, he is survived by: sons, Brinley H. (Anita) Davis of Dover, Donn W. (Halona) Davis of Brooklyn, NY and Samuel R. (Debbie) Davis of Dundee; daughter, Andrea E. (Mark) Malcuit of Strasburg; grandchildren, Nick, Jonathan and Zach Davis and Henry and Elizabeth Malcuit; and a sister, Marnie Baker of Dover.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be held Tuesday, July 13 at 2:00 p.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover with Pastor Marlin Drake officiating. Following the interment in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Dover, a reception will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, Dover.
Friends may call in the funeral home on Monday from 6-9 p.m. as well as one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
