William J. "Bill" Tomblin, 76, of Dover, with his loving family around him, entered into the joy of the Lord on Monday, May 4, 2009.
Born, December 29, 1932, in Burnsville, West Virginia, he was a son of the late William D. and Mearl Gibbson Tomblin. Bill attended school in Burnsville, and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Republic Steel Corporation at Canton in 1996, following twenty-one years of service.
Bill was a member of the Church of New Hope and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both at Dover, as well as the Bolivar post of the American Legion. He cherished time spent with his wife and family, and they saw him as nothing less than a great husband, father and grandfather. Bill also enjoyed country music, playing the rhythm guitar, and led several bands, the latest being The Country Roadrunners.
Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Petersheim Tomblin, whom he married on August 24, 1994, in Las Vegas; a daughter, Jeanna Edie of Zoarville; two sons, Bill (Claudette) Tomblin of Selma, North Carolina, and Jami Tomblin of Zoarville; two step-sons, Jeff (Tedi) Allen of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Chuck (Ada) Allen of Newport, Rhode Island; five grandchildren, Bill and Sean (Monica) Edie and Tristen Tomblin, all of Dover, Shavonne (Casey) McMillen of Zoarville and Ashley (Daniel) Sanetore of New Philadelphia; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Clara (Larry) Nohl of Bolivar; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by five sisters, Lillie Tomblin, Beatrice Prall, Madge Barker, Reatha and Lula Murphy; and by a brother, Dale Tomblin.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 9, at 1 p.m., in the Church of New Hope, with Pastor Dan Legg officiating. Immediately following the service, the Dover post of the V.F.W. will conduct military rites at the nearby family home, at 4075 Bair Rd. N.W., Dover.
