William L. “Bill” Hayes, 59, of Beach City, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in Aultman Hospital, Canton, following a sudden illness.
Born Apr. 18, 1943, in Metuchen, NJ, he was a son of the Harold L. Hayes of Mannington, WV, and the late Lillie M. Jones Hayes. Bill was a former line operator for the Seaman Corporation, Wooster, and had also been employed by the Paint Valley Lumber Co., Beach City. He enjoyed horses and riding, woodworking and hunting. Bill loved his grandchildren and time spent with them.
Survivors include his wife, Judith “Judy” Kent Hayes, with whom he celebrated thirty-nine years of marriage on July 12 of this year; two daughters, Virginia (John) Goss of Dover, and Lillie Campbell of Beach City; two sons, Wes (Gina) Hayes of Mineral City, and Billy Ray (Dawn) Hayes of Strasburg; eight grandchildren, Aprile and Heath Hayes of Mineral City, Johnnie and Kellie Goss of Dover, Briena and Miranda Hayes of Strasburg, and William and Jeffery Campbell of Beach City; three sisters, Anna “Boots” Mike of Mannington, Betty (Chick) Chaney of New Springfield, and Martha (Sam) Anderson of Moundsville, WV; a brother, Robert “Bob” Hayes of Beach City; close family friends, Betty “Grandma” Jones and Brock Wigfield; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a niece, a nephew, his mother-in-law, and two brothers-in-law.
Visitation will be Thursday (today), Aug. 1, 2002, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Strasburg. Pastor Gerald Scheussler of St. John United Church of Christ, Strasburg, will conduct a brief service Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Additionally, visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, 10-11 a.m., in the Masters Funeral Home, Mannington, WV., where a funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Wadestown Cemetery, Wadestown, WV.
