William M. Stien

William M. “Bill” Stien, 78, of Dover, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 in the Park Village Health Care Center.

He was a member of the St. Johns United Church of Christ in Dover where he enjoyed being a part of the Golden Oldies group. He had also been a longtime and active member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Dover where he served on planning and maintenance committees for many years.

Bill retired from The Times Reporter in 1991 where he had spent 25 years as an advertising account executive. Prior to his work at the newspaper, Bill was involved with his family�(TM)s operation of the former Stien�(TM)s Food Market in Dover and Judy�(TM)s Gardens and Greenhouse.

Born January 9, 1926 at Dover, Bill was the son of the late Ralph W. and Ethel K. Lieser Stien.

Bill was a dedicated member of the Tuscarawas County Blue Lodge #59, where he held terms as worshipful master in 1956 and 1978. He was a 50-year member of the Tuscarawas Chapter #222 Order of Eastern Star at New Philadelphia where he was, in addition, a member of its Triangle Club. He also belonged to the Scottish Rite Valley of Canton.

He took pride in his affiliation with the Tuscarawas County Historical Society and recently achieved the status of Life Member. He looked forward to trips and activities with the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens and was a 50-year member of the Dover Elks.

Bill was blessed to have been married to three special women in his life. His wife Virginia “Ginny” Brown Stien, whom he wed on February 27, 1999, survives. He was preceded in death by his first wife Rosemary Rinehart Stien who died in 1959 and his second wife, Nellie Feutz Stien who passed away in 1993.

Other survivors include: two stepchildren, Rosamond Brown Gordon and her husband Paul of Dover, and Brinley and Karen Brown of New Philadelphia; two step-grandchildren, Chelsea and Jillian Brown; brothers-in-law, John (Linda) Feutz & Robert (Patty) Feutz both of Dover; sisters-in-law, Mary (Jack) Blickensderfer of Dover and Patricia Sindlinger of Sarasota, FL and brother-in-law Roger (Pauline) Rinehart of New Philadelphia, as well as many cousins living in the area.

A funeral service celebrating Bill�(TM)s life will be held Friday, March 26, at 11:00 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover with Rev. Steven Daniels officiating.

Bill honorably served his country in the Navy as a part of the Pacific Theater during World War II and the Dover VFW will conduct military rites in the Dover Burial Park following the service.

Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. with Masonic service being conducted at 4:45 p.m.
