William "Bill" R. Milliken Jr., 75, of Dover, Ohio died Sunday, January 4, 2009 in Union Hospital following a brief illness.
He retired in 1999 as owner of the Towne Kiln at Dover that he operated for twenty nine years. He had previously been an employee of the former Kroger Store at Dover.
Born February 6, 1933 in Dover, he was the son of the late William R. and Laura (Martin) Milliken Sr.
Bill attended the St. John United Church of Christ in Strasburg. He was a life member of the New Philadelphia VFW and formerly served as Commander of the Dover VFW and its military honor guard. He was a 1951 graduate of Dover High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was an avid golfer.
Bill is survived by his wife, Goldie (Stuber) Milliken with whom he would have celebrated 53 years of marriage on February 11. He is also survived by a son, James A. (Colleen) Milliken of Dover; daughter in law, Kathie Milliken of Bolingbrook, Illinois; five grandchildren Robert (Christy) Milliken of Helena, Alabama, Christopher (Stephanie) Milliken of Singapore, China, Stacey (Steven) Crain of Lula, Georgia, Jamie Chatterton of Plano, Texas and Kevin Hoffer of St. Louisville, Ohio; seven great grandchildren, Aaron and Erika Milliken of Helena, Alabama, Samantha and Alexis Milliken of Singapore, China, Ethan Shoup and Sophie Crain both of Lula, Georgia and Taylor Feldman of Plano, Texas; three step grandchildren, Matthew (Kate) Casto, Michael Casto and Ami (Alin) Casto Nenes and a step great granddaughter, Ava Sophia Casto.
He was preceded in death by his son, Richard "Rick" Milliken and two sisters, Sara Rabes and Mary Thurman.
A funeral service celebrating Bill's life will be held Thursday, January 8, 2009 at noon in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Rev. Gary Friend officiating. A graveside service will follow at the Dover Burial Park officiated by Rev. Kevin Anslow. The New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military graveside honors. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00am until the time of service.
