Willis G. Farthing, 84, of Strasburg died Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Union Hospital following an extended illness.
Born September 6, 1929 in Zionville, North Carolina he was a son of the late William and Pearl Greer Farthing. Willis was also preceded in death by a sister, Barb Proffitt.
He was the creator and owner of Farthing Electric for many years. Willis proudly served his country with the United States Army Signal Corp during the Korean War and was a member of the Strasburg American Legion.
A wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather, Willis will be sadly missed by his wife of 59 years, Mary Huffman Farthing whom he married on July 2, 1955; children, Lynn Farthing of Chicago, Bill (Jennifer) Farthing of Solon, Wanda (Bruce) Goedel and John (Heather) Farthing both of Strasburg; sisters, Wanda Eaton of Willowick, Ohio and Pat (Paul) Bango of Zionville; grandchildren, Josh, Jessica, Molly, Jacob, Joey, Amanda, Katie and Mary.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 30 at 1:30 pm in the St. John United Church of Christ at Strasburg with The Rev. Dr. Monte Canfield officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg where the Strasburg American Legion will conduct military graveside services. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Strasburg on Friday from 5-7 pm.
