Wilma P. Hawk

Wilma P. Hawk, age 89, a resident of Riverside Manor in Newcomerstown and former resident of Dover, passed away on October 4, 2016.

She was born on January 31, 1927 near Bakersville, Ohio and was the daughter of Michael and Erma (Schumacher) Bahmer. On November 13, 1949, Wilma married Russell Hawk. Together they raised four children on a 100-acre farm near Bakersville where they lived from 1949 until 1989.

Wilma was a graduate of Stone Creek High School where she played trombone in the band and sang in the choir. She was a homemaker and, together with Russ, operated their farm and pipeline business, Dover Contracting, Inc. for a total of 48 years.

Wilma loved to travel, planning many vacations that took her family throughout most of the United States and Canada. When the children were grown, she and Russ continued their love of travel. They enjoyed many memorable experiences, including a safari in Africa, the wildlife of the Galapagos Islands, the sites of Hong Kong and China, the view from Mont Blanc, France, and island-hopping from Hawaii to New Zealand on their way to Australia.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Mark) Campbell of Newcomerstown and Judy (Andy) Woodgeard of Springfield; two sons, Dave (Widget) Hawk of Clover, SC, and Gary Hawk of Dover; four grandchildren, Jennifer Fairchild of Clover, SC, Sommer Fairchild of Newcomerstown, Morgan Hawk of Asheville, NC, and David Hawk of Clover, SC; a great-granddaughter, Kennedy (Jack) Hurst of Massillon and two great-great granddaughters, Julianna and Atlee Hurst; a brother-in-law, Ralph Kilchenman of Dover and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to Wilma's parents, her sisters, Maxine (Clarence) Helmreich, Florence (Wayne) Smith, Audrey Kilchenman and Hazel (Jimmy) Swigert precede her in death.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 8 at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Brian Flood officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park. Following the burial, a luncheon will be held in the Toland-Herzig Famous Endings Museum. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8 pm.
